Other deductions
This section applies to self-employed and incorporated truckers.
Simply put, most any expense incurred to generate income, is deductible. The cost of insurance, licences, fuel, repairs, truck cleaning, office supplies, etc. are all deductible as they pertain to generating income.
Less obvious expenses are office-in-the home expenses. This is a deduction for the business use portion of your home. There are limitations and restrictions but you ought to look into it.
Automobile costs incurred to to pick up parts, go to the bank, see your accountant, etc., may be deductible.
Cell phones and internet usage, as it pertains to your business, are also eligible expenses.
Don't forget big ticket items like the lease on your tractor and/or trailer. Or perhaps the depreciation (CCA) on owned equipment. Interest is also deductible on business loans.
It's important you know what can be claimed and how much. See a professional today.
